Sustainability Engineer – Internship

  • Paris France | Toulouse, France
  • Full-time
  • As soon as possible

You must have citizenship from a country of the European Union or NATO, excluding the USA, to apply to this position.

Your Mission

SpaceLocker develops shared space missions that optimize payload deployment while minimizing environmental impact. The space sector faces major sustainability challenges—both on Earth (manufacturing, launches) and in orbit (debris risk). Building on our environmental analyses and commitment to the Zero Debris charter, we are expanding our engineering team to focus on environmental impact assessment and debris risk analysis.

In this position, you will work with the CEO and Systems Engineering team to:

  • Contribute to working groups on sustainability, such as the ESA EcoDesign Task Force.
  • Develop and strengthen a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) model for shared missions using tools like OpenLCA to quantify environmental benefits.
  • Verify mission compliance with the European Space Agency’s “Space Debris Mitigation” requirements.
  • Implement a process to ensure compliance with specific space debris tools and methodologies.
  • Propose Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) recommendations and support internal awareness initiatives around environmental challenges in the space industry.
  • Participate in strategic discussions related to the decarbonization roadmap of the space sector.

Your Profile

This list is not exhaustive. If you think your profile fits, even if you don’t tick all the boxes, feel free to apply and explain why in your message!

Hard skills:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Space Engineering, or a related field. A specialization in eco-design or environmental engineering is a strong asset.
  • Good understanding of space debris issues and their implications.
  • Knowledge or hands-on experience with LCA methodologies (e.g., working with OpenLCA or SimaPro).
  • Interest in CSR and motivation to support internal environmental awareness initiatives.
  • Familiarity with systems-thinking approaches applied to space missions.

Soft skills:

  • Strong sensitivity to environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Curious, autonomous, and eager to contribute in a small, dynamic team.
  • Proactive about learning and comfortable participating in strategic or multidisciplinary discussions.

About the Company

SpaceLocker aims to make satellite missions more efficient and sustainable.

To achieve this, we develop shared satellite missions or more technically in-orbit payload hosting. This hosting service enables any organization to launch easily and quickly sensors or experiments to harvest space data without having to hassle with the technical satellite and space segment part. On the other side, by sharing higher-end space infrastructure, our customers increase their performances and reduce the environmental impact of their missions both regarding emissions and debris production. Technically, this is made possible thanks to a technological stack combining proprietary hardware and cloud-inspired software into a “space USB for satellites” that enables this revolutionary plug-and-play effect.

We are not trying to build a dog picture blockchain nor a hotel on the Moon, but a rock-solid company that will provide the foundations for the next generation of space exploration. This intention is anchored to a strong technical expertise, a quick prototyping approach and a direct link to the market.

SpaceLocker is a company firmly engaged about diversity and inclusivity, of age, gender, origins, handicap or any other characteristic (and we are aware of the slight irony, the founder team being the most average white guys you can imagine 😀). Progress and inclusion are not just corporate speech: we are aware it needs actual efforts and compromises.
